By Stephen W. Hiemstra
Prepare our hearts, oh Lord, for the coming holidays when we
must face that empty chair,
must answer questions that intrude too much,
and much remember events from the past that refuse to be history.
Turn down the lights a bit,
Let the old music play bit more gently,
Give me some space when I seem a bit distant.
In the power of your Holy Spirit,
Remind me, oh Lord, of your love in Christmas lights.
Shelter me in your arms again.
In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
