God of all wonders.

We praise you for Mary’s faithfulness and Jesus’ miraculous birth.

Bridge the gaps of holiness, time, and space between us.

Open our minds to the miracles that we experience daily but neglect to think about.

Open our hearts to accept your will for our lives.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Prayer to Bridge the Gaps

Life_in_Tension_revision_front_20200101By Stephen W. Hiemstra

Father God,

We thank you for your willingness to break into our little worlds.

Break our obsession with ourselves—the person that we know so well, but have trouble being truthful to.

Shine your light into the darkness; drive the cloud of despair away; help us to accept your Gospel by engaging it, living it, and sharing it.

Bridge the gap between our false selves and our true selves in Christ; bridge the gap between us and others; bridge the gap between us and you.

By the power of your Holy Spirit, re-create us again as whole people.

In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.

Prayer for Those in Peril

Winter Trees by Sharron Beg
Winter Trees by Sharron Beg (www.threadpaintersart.blogspot.com)

By Stephen W. Hiemstra

Almighty God,

We thank you for the security of a roof over our heads, gas to power our heaters, and power to run our appliances.

Help us to remember those that lack these things.

We thank you for the accident of our birth that gave us food to eat, clean water to drink, and sanitary plumbing to use.

Help us to remember those that lack these things.

We thank you for the protection of honest police, the care of competent physicians, and the instruction of educated teachers.

Help us to remember those that lack these things.

Oh dear, Lord, give us discerning minds, tender hearts, and helping hands,

when we forget who we are and how you have called us.

In the power of your Holy Spirit, bridge the gap

between discerning minds and the ones we have,

tender hearts and the ones we have,

helping hands and the ones we have.

Forgive us, heal us, and save us from our gaps.

In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
